2013 was a great year for movies, even better th

2012 was a very good year for movies.  Many atypical films found their way to the limelight.  There are at least 30 films we would rank as very good in 2012.  Ones that did not make our Top Ten include Seven Psychopaths, Wild Bill, Skyfall, Moonrise Kingdom, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, and Jeff, Who Lives at Home.  Here are our top ten favorite films of 2012.

What one finds funny, another finds off-color or out-of-touch.  With this truth in mind, we offer up our favorite 50 funny quotes from films over the past years.  We prefer lines that make you laugh, even if you haven’t seen the movie.  We also prefer one quote rather than a dialogue to set it up.  It doesn't matter if the film is funny, only that the line is. 2011 featured lots of good movies but no great ones.  Some critically acclaimed films failed to deliver to our tastes, including The Tree of Life and Meek’s Cutoff.  Some lesser known films not on our list, like Martha Marcy May Marlene and Melancholia, show great promise for emerging films. We admit our preference is for great stories, rather than artistic renderings.  From that perspective, here are our favorite films of 2011.
